The Black Death
This collection was inspired by the Black Death and Plague Doctor Costumes from the 1600s. The idea was to take elements from protective gear and incorporate them into a more fashionable way. This collection also aims to be as sustainable as possible, using fabrics and materials from 100% sustainable suppliers from around the world.

Traditional Plague Doctor costumes were used in France and Italy during the 17th century. The costume consisted of an ankle length overcoat, a bird-like beak mask, gloves, boots, an outer over-clothing garment, and a wide brimmed hat which signified their profession. The doctors also used long wooden canes to point out areas needing attention on a patient from a distance. The Plague Doctor costume was the first kind of head-to-toe protective garment for doctors. It was generally made of materials including Moroccan leather, and waxed canvas. Both the beaks and the garments would be impregnated/filled with herbs, flowers, and spices, as people believed they would counter the “evil” smells of the plague and prevent them from becoming infected.
A large part of this project is to use 100% sustainable materials. Sustainability is becoming a large part of the fashion industry, and it is important to try and contribute to these efforts.
